Permalinks
Choose how the site's web addresses are built, and rename the built-in page and category terms for each language.
Opening the Screen
Open Settings › General, then choose the Permalinks tab: {admin}/settings?general=permalinks
What Is on the Screen
The tab holds two panels. Opening one closes the other.
URL Structures
Three cards, one per structure. Each shows a live example next to example.com/ and a short server requirement. The structure in use today is pre-selected.
URL Configuration
A language strip switches which language's terms you are editing. Below it, a grid holds every built-in page, category and section term as its own field. A Revert to Default Settings button sits at the end of the form.
Fields
Tasks
Change the URL structure
- Open URL Structures and pick a structure.
- Save. If the structure needs a server feature the site does not have, saving is refused with an explanation, and the previous structure stays active.
- Once saved, every address on the site follows the new structure right away.
Rename a built-in term for a language
- Open URL Configuration and switch to the language you want to edit.
- Change the field for the term you want renamed.
- Save. The new word appears in that language's addresses from then on.
Things to Watch
SEO-Friendly and Path-Based are checked against the server at the moment you save. A failed check leaves the site on its previous structure.
An empty field is not saved on its own. Type a new word over it — that is the only way to change what an address shows.
It restores the built-in terms for every active language at once, including languages other than the one you are viewing.
Required Privileges
Opening Settings › General needs SETTINGS_INFORMATIONS_CONFIGURE. Viewing and saving the Permalinks tab additionally needs SETTINGS_SEO_CONFIGURE.
