Notification Settings

The frame every notification email arrives in is set here once: the logos, the template engine and the container that wraps each message.

Opening the Screen

Open Notification Templates under Settings in the panel menu, then click the Settings button at the top right: {admin}/notifications/settings

What Is on the Screen

Logo preview Under each logo box. The note Using the site logo appears while the notifications have no logo of their own; the bin button next to it appears only when they do.
Template Container The frame shared by every email. It has one tab per site language and three boxes on each tab: Header, Body and Footer. The message of the template being sent goes into the body.
Code and Preview The strip above the boxes. Preview shows the finished frame with a sample message, without saving.
Variables Beside the container label. The values you can place in the frame, such as the site name, the logos and the message itself. Click one to copy it. The tags follow the engine you chose.

Fields

Header Logo The logo at the top of the emails. Optional: without one, the site logo is used. JPG, PNG, GIF, SVG and WebP are accepted, and the last two are turned into PNG in your browser before saving because inboxes do not show them.
Footer Logo The logo at the foot of the emails. Same rules as the header logo.
Template Engine The syntax used in the container and in every template: None, Smarty or Twig. None allows variables only; the other two add conditions and loops. Smarty and Twig appear on the list when they are installed.
Header The opening of the frame: the logo, the greeting, anything above the message. Per language.
Body The middle of the frame. The template's own message lands where you put the message variable from the Variables list. Per language.
Footer The closing of the frame: signature, contact details, legal lines. Per language.

Tasks

  1. Click Header Logo or Footer Logo and choose a file.
  2. Check the preview that appears beneath it.
  3. Click the Save button at the foot of the form. The new logo is used in every notification email.
  1. Click the bin button next to the preview.
  2. The notification logo is deleted and the preview switches to the site logo, with the Using the site logo note beside it. This takes effect at once, without saving.

Edit the frame

  1. Pick a language on the container tabs.
  2. Edit Header, Body and Footer, copying what you need from the Variables list.
  3. Click Preview to see the result with a sample message, then click Save.

Change the template engine

  1. Choose the engine under Template Engine. The Variables list rewrites its tags in the new syntax.
  2. Bring the container and your templates into that syntax.
  3. Save, then preview a few templates to check that they still read correctly.

Things to Watch

The frame must carry the message variable

Every language needs the message variable somewhere in its Header, Body or Footer. Without it the save is refused and the message names the missing variable and the language. A syntax error in the frame stops the save the same way.

Changing the engine touches every template

The message bodies already written stay as they are. Text written for another engine may reach the client with its tags unfilled, so preview a few templates after the change.

One frame for all emails

What you change here reaches every email notification, from the welcome message to the invoice reminder. The logos belong to the notifications only and do not change the site.

Required Privileges

The NOTIFICATIONS_TEMPLATES permission opens this screen and covers saving the settings, removing a logo and previewing the frame.
