Product Categories

86 Aufrufe Markdown

Product Categories lists the sections you have created inside a product group, such as Shared versus Reseller hosting, so customers can browse a shorter list.

Opening the Screen

Open the product group you want, from the sidebar or from Product Groups, and click Categories above its product list: {admin}/products/hosting/categories

The Create New Category button above the list opens the same form used to edit an existing category. It only appears for accounts holding the product group editing privilege.

What Is on the Screen

One table, one row per category in this group. The heading above it always reads Categories, whichever group you opened it from; the breadcrumb above the heading names the group. The Title column opens the category's own settings form; URL opens the category's live catalogue page in a new tab.

ColumnWhat It Shows
TitleCategory name. Opens the category's settings form.
Parent CategoryOpens the parent's live catalogue page in a new tab. Blank for a top-level category.
URLLive catalogue link for the category, opens in a new tab.
ProductsProducts filed directly in the category. Sortable.
ServicesClient services sold from it. Sortable.
CreatedDate the category was added. Sortable, newest first by default.
StatusActive or Inactive.
ActionsRow menu: Edit, Delete.

The row menu's Edit opens the same settings form as the Title link. A selection column and the Apply to Selected list above the table appear only for accounts holding the product group editing privilege.

Fields

Apply to SelectedEmpty by default. Its only option is Delete, which removes every ticked row.

Tasks

Editing a Category

  1. Click the category's name, or open the row's action menu and choose Edit.
  2. Change any field on the settings form and click Save Changes.
  3. The form stays open with the new values in place.

Deleting Categories

  1. Tick the categories to remove, or open a single row's action menu and choose Delete.
  2. For a selection, choose Delete from Apply to Selected and confirm. Removing more than one category at once also asks for your account password.
  3. The rows disappear from the list.

Things to Watch

Deleting a category keeps its products

Removing a category deletes only that entry. Products filed in it stay in place, without a category. A sub-category nested underneath keeps its own products, but shows no parent once the category above it is gone.

Required Privileges

Opening this screen needs either View (PRODUCTS_LOOK) or Edit (PRODUCTS_OPERATION) on products. Creating, editing, and deleting a category all need Edit (PRODUCTS_GROUP_OPERATION) on product groups.
