Client Reseller Account

Define reseller-specific credit, payment, and product discount conditions to control one account's commercial limits without changing installation-wide rules.

Opening the Screen

Open a client and choose the Reseller tab: {admin}/users/detail?id={client}&tab=reseller

The tab depends on an installation setting

With the reseller system switched off across the installation, this tab appears on no client at all. Its absence says the system is off, not that the client is not a reseller. It is switched on from the reseller settings screen.

What Is on the Screen

Reseller Activation Whether reselling is open for this client. While it is off, the conditions and discounts below can be saved but do nothing. With automatic activation in the reseller settings, it switches on by itself once the client reaches the first discount tier.
Reseller Conditions Two credit limits and one payment restriction. A condition left empty follows the value on the reseller settings screen.
Discount Rates This reseller's own discounts. They apply by themselves on purchase, renewal and upgrade.

Credit conditions

There are two separate limits and they are easy to mix up. The top-up floor is the least the reseller may load at once; it replaces the Account Balance module's minimum amount. The balance floor is the condition for the reseller discount: while the balance is below it, the reseller pays undiscounted prices. Each carries its own currency, and an empty one follows the value on the reseller settings screen.

Payment method restriction

Three choices: default (follows the value on the reseller settings screen), enabled (the reseller pays for orders from their account balance only) and disabled (no restriction for this reseller). With it enabled, the reseller cannot choose card or transfer when ordering; they have to add funds first. Paying their invoices is outside this restriction.

Discount levels

A discount is defined at one of five levels, and the narrower one overrides the wider:

All Products The rate that stands where no narrower rule applies.
Product Group A whole group: hosting, servers, software, a special product group, all domain names or all SSL certificates.
Category A category inside the group, together with its sub-categories. Uncategorized covers the group's products that sit in no category.
Product A single product. Under the domain names group, a single extension such as .com.
Addon A single product add-on.

A second rate cannot be defined for the same target; the form says it already exists. With no rates at all, an empty state takes the list's place.

Tiers

Each target holds one or more tiers. A tier sets a range of services under Service Quantity and its Discount Rate (%). The count is taken at the target's level, for example the reseller's services in that group. An order counts every service that is not cancelled; a renewal or upgrade counts active services only. Leave the end of the range empty for no upper limit; the box then shows ∞. A rate takes up to two decimals, such as 12.25.

A product in a sub-category takes its own category's rate first, then the rate of each category above it.

Fields

Unpaid Invoices Appears under Reseller Activation while it is off, if this reseller has an unpaid invoice with a reseller discount. Ticked, saving removes the discount from those invoices and recalculates their totals.
Minimum credit that can be loaded The least the reseller may top up at once. Left empty, the value on the reseller settings screen applies.
Top-up limit currency The currency of the amount above.
Credit balance floor While the reseller's balance is below this amount, no reseller discount applies. Left empty, the value on the reseller settings screen applies.
Balance floor currency The currency of the amount above.
Payment Method Restriction Default (follows the reseller settings screen), enabled or disabled.
Discount level What the rate is defined against; the pickers beside it open according to the choice.
Discount Rates Optional. The tier rows of each target: a Service Quantity range and a rate. An empty end has no upper limit; a rate takes two decimals.

Tasks

Open a reseller account for a client

  1. Switch reseller activation on.
  2. Set the credit conditions and payment restriction where they apply.
  3. Save. The client starts seeing the reseller area in their own panel.

With activation set to Automatic in the reseller settings, you may not need these steps. A client whose active, paid services reach the first discount tier becomes a reseller on their own. It appears on the Client tab of Activity Logs.

Close a client's reseller account

  1. Switch reseller activation off. If the client has unpaid invoices with a reseller discount, the Unpaid Invoices box appears, already ticked.
  2. Leave it ticked to remove the discount from those invoices, or untick it to keep the discount.
  3. Click Save Changes. The message tells how many invoices changed.

For a reseller who is already inactive, the box appears unticked. Tick it and save to clear the discount from old invoices. Automatic activation does not reopen reselling you closed.

Define a product-specific discount

  1. Under Discount Rates, click Add Discount and choose the level in Select Level.
  2. Choose the target in the picker that opens, then click Add Discount beside it.
  3. In the target's row, enter the Service Quantity range and the rate. Add more tiers with Add Discount Rate.
  4. Click Save Changes. The rate applies to the reseller's purchases, renewals and upgrades from then on.

Make a reseller pay with credit only

  1. In the Payment Method Restriction row, select Enabled.
  2. Click Save Changes. When ordering, the reseller now sees only Account Balance at the payment step.

Things to Watch

The two credit limits say different things

One says "may load at least this much", the other "gets the discount while the balance is at least this much". The first acts when funds are added, the second when a price is calculated: in the cart, in an order, and when a renewal or upgrade invoice is created. A reseller below the threshold sees a warning about it in their own panel. When you create an order from the panel, the Reseller badge also appears in the warning colour.

The narrower level overrides the wider

With 10% on all products and 20% on one product, that product runs at 20%. This is how a single product is carved out without touching the base rate.

The base rates keep applying

The base rates on the reseller settings screen apply to every reseller. A target given a rate here replaces the base tiers of that same target; every other base rate still applies. A reseller with no rates of their own is priced by the base rates.

Discounts apply on renewals and upgrades too

A defined rate applies not only to the first purchase but to the reseller's renewal and upgrade invoices. Remember to remove a rate defined for a temporary campaign once the campaign ends.

Deactivating does not reprice existing invoices

The discount is fixed on an invoice when the invoice is created. Saved with the box unticked, the client can still pay those unpaid invoices at the discounted total.

Required Privileges

Reading the tab comes with the client record. Saving the activation, the conditions and the discount rates needs USERS_OPERATION.
