Real-Time

Who is in the client area at this moment, where they are connecting from and when they last signed in.

Opening the Screen

Open WAnalytics from the menu, then pick Real-Time at the top of the rail on the left. The address is {admin}/wanalytics/realtime.

What Is on the Screen

This report has no period. It always shows the present moment, so the masthead carries a Live mark instead of a date field.

Masthead Report name, the Live mark, a Refresh button and a Download as PDF button.
Figures Two counters: Right Now and Last 5 Minutes.
Location Distribution A world map with one circle per city. The circle grows with the number of clients, and clicking it names the city and its count.
Register The list of clients online, with a search box, a download menu, a page size select and a pager.

The two counters

Right Now Clients who opened a page in the client area within the last five minutes. It follows page views, not the session: a client who signed in and left the tab sitting there drops off the counter after five quiet minutes, even though the session is still valid. This is the same set of people the map and the list below are built from.
Last 5 Minutes Clients who signed in during the last five minutes. It counts fresh sign-ins, so it can be far smaller than the first counter.

The register columns

Client Name and company, as a link to the client record.
Country/City Flag, country and city taken from the sign-in record. An em dash means no location was stored.
IP Address The address the client signed in from, with a lookup button next to it.
Last Activity When the client last signed in. The list opens sorted on this column, newest first.

Fields

Search The box above the register. It matches name, e-mail, company and city.
Page size The select under the register. It starts at 10 rows and goes up to all of them.

Tasks

Refresh now

  1. Click the Refresh button next to the Live mark.
  2. The two counters and the map are read again. The button spins until the answer arrives.
  3. The same read happens on its own every 30 seconds, so waiting also works.

Open a client from the list

  1. Type a name, e-mail, company or city into the search box to find the row.
  2. Click the client name. The client record opens with everything you need to act.
  3. To check where a session comes from instead, use the lookup button next to the IP address.

Download the list

  1. Click the download icon at the right end of the register's control strip.
  2. Pick CSV, JSON or XML.
  3. The file holds every row your search leaves behind, not only the page on screen.

Download the whole sheet

  1. Click the Download as PDF button at the top right of the sheet.
  2. The file carries the counters, the map and the list as you see them, with your logo on it.
  3. The search box, the buttons and the pager stay out of the file.

Things to Watch

The refresh does not reach the list

Both the automatic read and the Refresh button update the two counters and the map. The register keeps the rows it opened with. Reload the page when you need a fresh list.

The map can hold fewer clients than the counter

A client is placed on the map only if their sign-in record carries a location. Sessions without one are counted in Right Now and listed in the register, but they have no circle. With no located session at all, the map stays empty while the counter still shows people online.

Sign-in time, not click time

Last 5 Minutes and the Last Activity column both come from the sign-in record. A client who signed in this morning and is still working shows this morning's time, not the last thing they did. Right Now is the one exception on this sheet: it comes from the last page view, not from the sign-in.

Required Privileges

The whole screen sits behind a single privilege, WANALYTICS. Without it the page does not open. The download menu on the register also needs your privilege group to allow table exports.
