Knowledge Base Categories
Groups knowledge base articles into folders and shows each folder's address, status and creation date in one list.
Reaching the Screen
Panel menu: Support then Knowledge Base, followed by the Categories button above the article list: {admin}/knowledgebase/categories
The menu entry appears while the knowledge base is switched on under Settings, General, on the Advanced tab. With it off, this address answers with the not-found page as well.
What Is on the Screen
One row per category, newest first. Create Category starts a new folder and Apply to Selected works on the checked rows. The search box matches the category name. Next to it a download icon appears when your role may export tables; it saves the list as CSV, JSON or XML.
Fields
Tasks
Create a category
- Click the Create Category button above the table.
- Enter the name, address and icon, and pick a parent if the folder belongs under another one.
- Save. The folder joins this list and can be chosen while you write an article.
Edit a category
- Search for the name or find its row in the list.
- Open the row menu at the end of the row and choose Edit.
- Save. A confirmation appears and you stay on the edit form. The new name, address and status show when you go back to the list.
Delete categories
- For one folder, open its row menu and choose Delete.
- For several, tick the rows, choose Delete under Apply to Selected and type your own administrator password.
- Confirm. The rows leave the list and their category pages stop answering.
Things to Watch
Every folder placed under the one you delete goes in the same step. The articles survive, but they lose their folder and show a dash in the article list until you give them a new one.
Categories created here are offered while you write a knowledge base article. Blog, news and reference categories have their own screens and never mix into this list.
Required Privileges
Edit permission shows the Create Category button and opens the edit form; without it the button is missing, while the Edit entry stays in the row menu and answers with an access warning. Delete permission adds the checkbox column, the Apply to Selected list and the delete entry in each row menu. Downloading the list needs TABLE_EXPORT; without it the download icon is not drawn.
