Adding a Testimonial

70 vues Markdown

Publish what a client said about you: who said it, their photo or company logo, and the quote itself in every language.

Opening the Screen

Panel menu: Site Management, then Client Testimonials, then the Create Testimonial button above the list: {admin}/manage-website/cfeedbacks/add

An existing testimonial opens in the same form from the list: {admin}/manage-website/cfeedbacks/edit?id={testimonial}

What Is on the Screen

A language strip, and one form under it.

Language strip A flag and a code for every active language. Your site's own language is selected first.
Who said it Name, company and email, plus the photo or logo.
How it is shown Status and sort order. One value serves every language.
The quote A wide box at the bottom, filled in per language.

Only the quote follows the language strip. Everything above it belongs to the tab the screen opens with and leaves the screen with it, keeping what you typed.

Fields

Name Required. Shown with the quote on the site, and used as the record's name in the list.
Company Optional. Shown under the name.
Email Optional, and kept for you alone. The site never shows it.
Status Approved from the start, which publishes the quote. Pending Approval keeps it off the site.
Sort Order Position among the testimonials, smallest number first. Empty counts as zero; equal numbers put the newest one first. The homepage has room for eight quotes, so this number also decides which ones get there.
Company Logo / Photo Optional. The camera button opens the file picker. The bin button next to it clears the picture and waits only on a testimonial you are editing. Your file is scaled to 120 pixels wide.
Message The quote itself. Required in every active language.

Tasks

Add a testimonial

  1. Click Create Testimonial above the list and fill in the name, the company and the quote.
  2. Change the language on the strip and write the quote again, for every language on it.
  3. Add the photo with the camera button, give a Sort Order and click Create.
  4. The list opens again with the testimonial on it. If it lands in the first eight, the site shows it in the position you gave.

Take a testimonial off the site

  1. Open it with the list's edit action.
  2. Set Status to Pending Approval and click Save.
  3. It leaves the site straight away and stays in your list, ready to be approved again later.

Remove the photo

  1. Open the testimonial from the list.
  2. Click the bin button next to the camera.
  3. The preview goes back to the placeholder and the file leaves the server. There is no confirmation step, and no Save is needed.

Things to Watch

Every language needs its quote

One empty box stops the save, and the message names the language that is missing. Check each tab on the strip before you save.

The bin button acts at once

It deletes the file the moment you click it, with no question and no undo. The button waits only on a testimonial you are editing, never on the create screen. Uploading a new picture over an old one deletes the old file too.

Approving is only half of it

Approved quotes reach the homepage while its testimonials block is switched on and your theme carries a testimonials section. With the block off, or under a theme without such a section, the list here fills up and the site shows nothing.
