Creating a Product Group

84 vues Markdown

Creating a Product Group gives you a separate catalogue section, apart from Hosting, Server, Software, and International SMS. It has its own categories, products, and settings.

Opening the Screen

Open Product Management in the sidebar, pick Product Groups, and click Create New Product Group above the list: {admin}/products/group/add

To change an existing group later, open its row's action menu on Product Groups and choose Edit. The same form opens, filled in with the group's saved values.

What Is on the Screen

A single form. A language tab strip runs above it: your site's default language is required. You can open or remove any other active language from the same strip.

Fields

TitleThe group's name, shown to customers. Required in your site's default language.
URL StructureThe web address for the group's catalogue page, one per language. Suggested from the title; you can change it.
Short DescriptionA short line shown near the title. Optional.
StatusEnabled or Disabled. A disabled group is removed from the catalogue, so customers can no longer find or buy any of its products through normal browsing.
HiddenRemoves the group from menus and search while its page stays reachable by direct link.
Listing TemplateBox List or Horizontal List. Horizontal List adds a Columns builder for table headings, such as Price or Storage, that products will fill in later.
Group ColorAn accent colour for the group.
Group IconA Bootstrap icon, or an uploaded image, shown next to the group's name.
Payment GatewaysOptionally restrict this group's products to a set of payment methods, by choosing methods to enable or to disable. Leave both empty to use the site's defaults.
External HTML CodeCustom HTML you can embed on the group's catalogue page. Optional; incomplete code can break the page.
Background ImageA banner image shown at the top of the group's catalogue page. Optional.
Frequently Asked QuestionsA list of question-and-answer entries shown on the catalogue page, per language. Optional.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)A search title, description, and an indexing switch for each language, at the bottom of the form.

Tasks

Creating the Group

  1. Fill in the Title, at least in your site's default language.
  2. Set any of the other fields you need, then click Create at the bottom of the form.
  3. The group is created, and its own, empty product list opens so you can add categories and products.

Editing a Group Later

  1. Open the group's row menu on Product Groups and choose Edit.
  2. Change any field and click Save Changes; the group's address only changes if you edit its URL Structure.
  3. An Order Upgrades option also appears once the group is saved, letting clients move up to a higher plan within it.

Things to Watch

Only your own catalogue changes

Creating a group here never changes Hosting, Server, Software, or International SMS. Those keep their own separate settings.

Addresses must be unique

If the address you pick for a language is already used by another page, saving fails until you choose a different one.

Required Privileges

Opening this screen to create a new group needs Edit (PRODUCTS_GROUP_OPERATION) on product groups. Opening an existing group to edit it only needs View (PRODUCTS_GROUP_LOOK); saving changes still needs Edit.
