Blog Articles
Manage your blog articles in one list, and decide from the same screen who may comment and when those comments appear.
Opening the Screen
Go to Site Management › Blog: {admin}/manage-website/blogs. The page itself is titled Articles, and it opens for staff holding any of the site management permissions.
The menu entry carries the number of comments waiting for approval.
What Is on the Screen
Three parts: the action bar with its side screens, the table of articles, and a settings window behind the Settings button.
The Action Bar
On a narrow screen the bar is folded away; open it with Show Options under the page title.
Apply to Selected acts on the rows you tick and offers one action, Delete. Create Article opens the empty article form. Categories and Comments leave for their own screens, and the Comments button repeats the pending count. Settings opens the window described below.
The Table Columns
The newest article comes first and that order stays; no column header sorts the list.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Selection box | Ticks the row for the bulk action. Needs the delete permission. |
| Title | The headline in the panel language, cut to fifty characters. Hover for the whole title. |
| URL | The public address of the article. Opens the live page in a new tab. |
| Created | When the article was added, as elapsed time. Hover for the exact moment. |
| Row menu | Three-dot button: Edit opens the article, Delete needs the delete permission. Edit stays visible without the edit permission. The form it opens then denies access. |
The strip above the table carries the rest. Show Records sets the page size, and the search box narrows the list by what you type, matching anywhere in the row.
The Settings Window
One switch decides whether the blog takes comments at all. With Comment System off, the two settings under it are hidden.
With it on, Publishing decides whether a new comment appears at once or waits for your approval, and Account Required decides whether the visitor has to sign in first. Click Save at the bottom of the window to apply the change.
Downloading the List
The download arrow sits at the right end of the table strip and appears for staff holding the table export permission. It offers CSV, JSON and XML.
Controls
Tasks
Setting the comment rules
- Click Settings in the action bar. The Blog Settings window opens.
- Turn Comment System on. The two options under it appear.
- Choose Automatic or Manual under Publishing, and set Account Required the way you want it.
- Click the Save button at the bottom of the window. New comments follow the rule from that moment on.
Changing an article
- Find the article with the search box above the table, or read it off the list.
- Open the three-dot menu at the end of its row and choose Edit.
- The article form opens with the current content, ready to change and save.
Deleting articles
- For one article, open the three-dot menu at the end of its row and choose Delete.
- For several, tick them in the first column, then choose Delete from Apply to Selected.
- With more than one selected the window asks for your own admin password. Type it, then click the Delete button in the window footer.
- The rows leave the list, together with their translations and uploaded images.
Things to Watch
Delete removes the article, all its translations and its uploaded images. Take a copy of anything you may want to publish again. Its comments are not deleted. They stay in the comment list as rows with no title, shown as #id. They also keep counting towards the pending badge. Clear them first if you do not want them left behind.
With Publishing on Manual, every new comment waits for you. Watch the badge on Comments so nobody waits for days.
Comment System is one setting for every article. There is no per-article version of it on this screen.
Required Privileges
Reading the list and the comment list needs one of the site management permissions. Creating articles, changing them, opening the category list and saving the settings window need MANAGE_WEBSITE_OPERATION. Without it the Create Article and Settings buttons are missing. The Categories button and the Edit entry stay visible, but deny access when opened. Ticking rows and deleting need MANAGE_WEBSITE_DELETE. Without it the selection column and the Delete entry never appear. The Apply to Selected list stays on the bar, with no row left to tick.
