Look up a domain name's WHOIS record and registration availability directly from the admin panel.

Opening the Screen

Open Products in the main menu, then choose Domain WHOIS Lookup. The screen opens at {admin}/products/domain/whois.

What Is on the Screen

A search box sits at the top of the page with a domain field and a search button. Before you search, a welcome panel explains what the tool checks. After you search, a status card shows whether the domain is Available or Registered, followed by a WHOIS Information card with the full raw registry response and a copy button. If the lookup fails, an error panel explains why. A Recent Searches panel on the side lists your last lookups with a Clear History button.

Fields

Domain nameThe domain to look up, with or without its extension. A name entered without a dot is treated as ending in .com.

Tasks

Looking Up a Domain

Type a domain name and click the search button, or press Enter. You can paste a full address; the tool strips http://, www., and any path before searching. Once a result or error appears, a clear button (✕) appears next to the search box; click it to reset the search and return to the welcome screen.

Reading the Result

The status card tells you at a glance whether the domain can be registered. The WHOIS Information card below it shows the registry's own response. Click the copy icon on that card to copy the raw text.

Using Recent Searches

Click any entry in Recent Searches to run that lookup again. Click Clear History to remove the whole list.

When a Lookup Fails

An error panel appears if the domain format is invalid, the registry could not be reached, or it returned no usable answer. There is no separate Unknown status for an inconclusive lookup; it is always treated as a failed search. The panel lists the likely cause and links to documentation on adding WHOIS server support for that extension. Click the search button again to retry.

Things to Watch

Recent Searches Stay in This Browser

The search history is saved in your browser only. It is not shared with other admins or devices, and clearing your browser data erases it.

Some Extensions Cannot Be Looked Up

An extension with no supported WHOIS server, or one blocked by a firewall, always fails. The error panel links to the extensions that need extra setup.

Required Privileges

PRODUCTS_LOOK or PRODUCTS_GROUP_LOOK: open the screen.
PRODUCTS_LOOK or PRODUCTS_OPERATION: run a search.
