IP Details Window

64 vues Markdown

Check an address's origin, trust level and the accounts that signed in from it, then block it on the spot.

Opening the Window

The window has no menu entry. It opens from an IP address shown in the panel. Click the info icon beside the address (tooltip IP Lookup), the address itself when linked, or an IP LOOKUP button.

Typical places are the activity, session, email and SMS logs, order details, ticket messages and service or invoice history. Private, loopback and reserved addresses cannot be looked up and return an error instead.

What Is on the Screen

The title reads IP Details with the address in brackets. The body stacks four blocks and the footer holds one button.

BlockWhat it showsWhen it appears
Trust verdictWhether the address can be trusted. Badges under it give the reasons.Always.
Identity stripFlag, city and country. Below them the address and its network (AS) name.Always.
Accounts listAccounts that signed in from the address. Clients and staff are counted apart. When an account used it. Needs a client privilege.
FactsInternet service provider, organization, postal code, currency, latitude and longitude, time zone and region. Unknown values show a dash.Always.

Trust Verdict

The heading reads Connection is trusted when the address is neither a proxy nor part of a hosting network. Otherwise it reads Address is not trusted.

Mobile / DesktopMobile when the address belongs to a mobile carrier network, Desktop otherwise.
ProxyThe visitor connects through a proxy or VPN. It reads Not a proxy otherwise.
Hosting networkThe address belongs to a data centre, not a home or office line. It reads Not a hosting network otherwise.
BlockedThe address is on the block list. Shown only while the block stands.

Accounts Using the Address

A count button on the right of the identity strip reads, for example, 3 clients · 1 staff member. Staff sign-ins are counted apart, so the client figure covers clients only. A session staff opened with Sign In as Client is not counted as the client's sign-in.

Click the button to open the list and again to close it. The list is headed Clients using this address and puts the latest sign-in first.

Each row gives the name, the email, the number of sign-ins and the last sign-in date. Staff rows carry a Staff badge. Up to 20 accounts are listed; past that, the list ends with Only the most recent clients are listed.

Tasks

Checking which accounts share an address

  1. Click the info icon beside the address (tooltip IP Lookup) to open IP Details.
  2. Click the count button on the right of the identity strip; the list opens under it.
  3. Click a row. A client row opens the client's detail page and a staff row opens the staff account.

Blocking an address

  1. Open IP Details for the address.
  2. Click Block IP in the footer. It acts at once, with no confirmation window.
  3. The Blocked badge joins the verdict and the button turns into Unblock IP. The address now appears on the Prohibited List and the change is written to the activity log.

To lift the block, click Unblock IP in the same window. You can also remove the address under Settings › Security, Prohibited List tab.

Things to Watch

A block shuts the address out of everything

A blocked address gets a block page on every request, the admin panel included, and the block has no end date. Blocking your own address locks you out of the panel from that connection.

The window depends on the IP Location Module

The details come from the module chosen under Settings › General, Localization tab, IP Location Module. With no module chosen, or one that cannot score proxies, the window does not open and an error appears. WAtlas scores proxies.

Required Privileges

Opening the window needs any one of USERS_LOOK, TICKETS_LOOK, ORDERS_LOOK, SERVICES_LOOK or INVOICES_LOOK.

The count button and the list need a client privilege, such as USERS_LOOK. A staff row opens the staff account only with ADMIN_SHOW. Block IP needs SECURITY_SETTINGS; without it the button still shows, but the change is refused.
