Free Domain with a Product

2.1k переглядів Markdown

Offer a free domain registration or transfer with this product, and optionally free renewals, on the billing cycles and extensions you pick.

Opening the Screen

Panel menu: Products. Open the product's group, then click its name (or the row menu's Edit action): {admin}/products/edit?id={product}

In the tab strip, click Free Domain. A direct link opens it already selected: {admin}/products/edit?id={product}&configuration=free_domain

What Is on the Screen

A short settings form: one choice, one multi-select and one tag field. A help line under the choice explains the free renewal.

Fields

Domain Offer None by default. Provide free domain registration/transfer only (standard renewal rates apply) makes only the first order free. Its renewals are billed at the standard rate. With Provide free domain registration/transfer and free domain renewals (while the service ordered with it stays active), renewals are free too. One renewal per term is free, for as long as the service ordered with the domain stays active. In 5.0-beta.3 and earlier versions, both options make only the first order free.
Domain Payment Terms Which of this product's billing cycles qualify, for example Monthly or Annually. A customer only gets the free domain on one of the cycles ticked here.
Eligible Extensions Which extensions qualify, without the dot (e.g. com, net, org, biz). Only a domain ending in one of these is covered.

Tasks

Set up the free domain offer

  1. Open the Free Domain tab and choose a Domain Offer.
  2. Under Domain Payment Terms, tick every billing cycle that should qualify.
  3. In Eligible Extensions, add each extension, then click Save Changes at the bottom of the page. It saves every tab on this screen together.

Things to Watch

The offer needs a payment term and an extension to work

Choosing an offer alone does not turn it on at checkout. At least one billing cycle and one extension must also be picked, or the free domain never applies.

Domain Payment Terms and Eligible Extensions stay editable on None

Setting Domain Offer back to None does not clear the other two fields. They have no effect until an offer is chosen again.

Who gets free renewals

Only orders placed on 5.0-beta.4 or later are covered; earlier orders keep the standard renewal rate. The domain must be ordered free, in the same order as the product, on a qualifying cycle and extension. Orders placed through the client API never include a free domain, so those domains renew at the standard rate.

When the free renewal stops

The free renewal stops while the service ordered with the domain is suspended, cancelled or past its due date. It also stops if that service moves to another client. An open renewal invoice then loses its free discount and gets it back once the service is active again. Late fees are not free; only the renewal amount is covered.

Where to see whether it applies

Open the domain's service page and stay on the Details tab. A line under Next Due Date shows whether the free renewal applies, and why not if it does not. The service ordered with it lists its free domains in the same place. Clients see a Free badge on the free renewal term, and a note on the domain page. The order page and the cart say so as well.

Required Privileges
