# Managing Themes

Manage Theme is your theme gallery: switch the active theme, preview or update the ones you have installed, and install new themes from a file or the theme store.

## Opening the Screen

Open **Settings** > **Theme/Customization**, then click the **Manage Theme** tab. It also opens directly at:

`{admin}/settings/theme?group=theme`

## What Is on the Screen

**Installed Themes** shows one card per theme in your system, active theme first. Each card shows a screenshot, name, and version, plus a short description or the theme's provider.

The card itself shows an **In Development** badge if the theme isn't ready to activate, and an **Update** badge when a newer version is available. A theme in the store you have not installed yet can also show an **Official** badge. To see whether a theme is Premium, Official, or Commercial, open its **Theme Details**.

Hovering a card reveals an Export icon, and a Remove icon on every card except the active theme. Clicking a card, or its **Theme Details** button, opens a dialog with the theme's description, features, and license, support, and update information.

The active theme's card shows a **Settings** button instead of activation controls. Every other installed theme shows **Activate** and **Preview**.

**Premium Themes**, further down, lists themes from the WISECP store you have not installed. A theme you already own shows **Install**; others show a price with **Buy Now** and **Learn More**.

An **Upload Theme** button at the top opens a dialog for installing a theme from your own file.

## Tasks

### Activating a Theme

Click **Activate** on an installed theme's card. The site switches right away, and the card moves to the front, marked as active.

### Uploading a Theme

Click **Upload Theme**. Drag your file onto the drop zone, or click it to browse. Once a file is selected, click **Upload & Install**. Only `.zip` files are accepted, up to 50MB.

### Installing or Buying a Premium Theme

For a theme you already purchased, open **Premium Themes** and click **Install**. Once installed, find it under Installed Themes and activate it there. For a theme you have not bought, click **Buy Now** to purchase it, or **Learn More** for details first.

### Previewing, Checking Details, and Updating

Click **Preview** on any installed theme to open your live site with that theme, without activating it. Click a card, or **Theme Details**, for full information. When the Update badge is showing, update the theme to its newest version from that same dialog. On an installation running in demo mode, Preview is turned off and the button says so: there the appearance panel your visitors see handles theme switching.

### Removing a Theme

Open the card's hover menu and click the trash icon, then confirm. This deletes the theme's files from your server.

## Things to Watch

> **Activating Goes Live Right Away**
> 
> There is no confirmation step. Visitors see the new theme the moment you click Activate, so preview it first if you are unsure.

> **Removing a Theme Cannot Be Undone**
> 
> Its files are deleted for good. You cannot remove the theme that is currently active.

> **Themes in Development Cannot Be Activated**
> 
> You can still open Preview to see how one looks, until the theme itself is marked ready.

## Required Privileges

- **SETTINGS_THEME_CONFIGURE** — required for every action on this tab: activating, uploading, installing, updating, exporting, and removing a theme.
